Historic field generates a CA$13 million prize pool in Montreal
The largest live poker festival ever held on Canadian soil has narrowed its field down to the final 30 competitors. Paul Klann leads the remaining pack as Day 5 begins in the CA$5,000 Main Event at the WSOP Super Circuit Canada, hosted at the Playground poker club. Meanwhile, online poker enthusiasts follow the action and analyze hand histories through industry platforms such as BCPoker.
The tournament registered a total of 2,844 entries, building a massive CA$13,082,400 prize pool that easily surpassed the initial CA$10 million guarantee. Klann bagged the top stack with 11.3 million chips, representing 113 big blinds. Guoyan Li holds second place with 8.1 million, while Nicholas Palma rounds out the top three with 7.6 million.
The 30 surviving players will navigate six levels of play during the session before setting up the final day, where the circuit ring and the CA$1,500,000 top prize await the champion.
Notable eliminations and a pivotal hand on Day 4
Day 4 commenced with several high-profile players in contention, though many fell short of the final stages. Poker Hall of Fame members Daniel Negreanu and Michael Mizrachi exited early, alongside Rami Hammoud, who finished sixth in this year’s WSOP Main Event.
Will Givens appeared positioned for a deep run after building a substantial stack. However, his tournament trajectory shifted dramatically following a major clash with Klann. Givens attempted a large multi-street bluff into Klann’s rivered ace-high flush. The hand catapulted Klann to the top of the leaderboard, while Givens was eliminated shortly after.
Seeking another milestone victory on the major tournament circuit
Klann’s poker resume includes significant achievements on the live circuit. His most prominent victory occurred in 2013 at the WPT L.A. Poker Classic Main Event, where he outlasted a 517-player field to claim the $1,004,090 first-place prize.
Though his tournament appearances have been selective over the past decade, he recorded a cash at this exact venue during last year’s WSOP Circuit Montreal Main Event. Thirteen years after his landmark victory in Los Angeles, Klann is positioned to contend for another seven-figure score.
