Belgian poker professional Davidi Kitai endured one of the most painful hands of the World Championship event after seeing a monster full house beaten by four of a kind. The massive pot left the experienced player with only a handful of chips and facing an uphill battle to remain in the tournament.
Kitai began the level with a healthy stack, but one dramatic hand completely changed his position and forced him into survival mode.
Monster hand turns into disaster
Holding A♠ A♣, Kitai flopped an unbeatable looking full house on a board of A♥ 5♠ 5♥ before the remaining community cards completed the board as 2♦ J♦.
With a strong hand, he welcomed the action as his opponent moved all in for around 50,000 chips. Expecting to collect a huge pot, Kitai made the call, only to discover his opponent held 5♦ 5♣ for quad fives.
The cooler reduced the Belgian star to roughly five big blinds. Despite the setback, he managed to rebuild his stack to around 18,000 chips shortly afterward and kept his tournament hopes alive.
Another rare cooler highlights the tournament
Kitai’s hand was not the only remarkable cooler seen during the opening flights of the championship. Earlier in the event, another player also saw a full house beaten by quads after committing chips on the river in a similarly unfortunate situation.
Such hands are among the rarest outcomes in tournament poker and serve as a reminder that even the strongest holdings can sometimes fall to extraordinary combinations.
Meanwhile, the tournament continued to attract huge interest, with more than 4,400 entries recorded during the final opening flight before registration closed. Organizers are expecting the field to finish close to the 10,000 player mark, making it one of the largest editions of the prestigious championship.
